Bruce Farquharson
Director 1990-2003
Bruce Farquharson grew up in Nanaimo and acquired an early love for choral singing as a member of the High School Glee Club. He left town for 20 years to become a geologist and returned as a public school science teacher. Following seven years as Music Director of the Nanaimo Tidesmen Barbershop Chorus and eight years singing with the Nanaimo A Cappella Singers, Bruce stepped forward to direct the newly expanded chamber choir, A Cappella Plus. Under his leadership the choir explored a great variety of musical genres, manifested in eclectic programming that included works of Early Music, art songs, spirituals, folk arrangements, Broadway and vocal jazz with rhythm section. Although he resigned as Director in 2003, that approach lives on in the music of A Cappella Plus. Bruce is currently Director of the Island Consort Chamber Choir and also cellist with the Nanaimo Chamber Orchestra.
